THIS MODEL is one of a kind, carefully hand-built from scratch to scale drawings. This is an exquisite model of the "Alice", a 24-foot pole-masted sloop, New Bedford, MA. Built by Master Modeler Harry Woodend, Alice is a plank on frame scale model.Sails and rigging are superb as are the decks and hardware all the way down to the hinges on the cabin door. Harry does such detail work that it is almost unbelievable.

All lines are belayed at the taffrail or cleats and dead eyes are rigged as actual. Look at the detail in the deck/taffrail photo. The entire model, sails, masts, etc., without the mahogany stand weighs a mere 14 ounces! That gives some idea of how delicate the modeler's touch is and how fine his craftsmanship is. Alice measures 33" X 33."

#1198 Yawl rigged cruising boat.

This is a beautiful little yawl-rigged cruising boat model. The hull shape looks very much like the famous Concordia yawls, superb cruising boats, over 100 of which were designed and commissioned in Massachusetts between 1938 and 1966.

Great detail and craftsmanship. Planked hull and mahogany deck with fine rigging.

As the United States prepared to enter the first war in Europe in the second decade of the 20th Century, the problem of moving troops across the Atlantic was solved, at least partially, by converting luxury passenger liners and altering them to carry many times the number of passengers than their designers had ever envisioned. This model is of one of those vessels.

Condition is good, and although the name of the vessel is not known, it should be only a matter of some research (easier now, with the Internet) to determine if one of your ancestors made the trip on this ship.
