Scottish Pond Boat
This
is a very early model of a Scottish fishing boat probably
built about 1880 or so. The name "Cellardyke"
is on her starboard quarter and "KY63" on
her bow. Cellardyke was a fishing village on the south
facing coast of the East Nuke of Fife, and at one
time was the second most important fishing port in
Scotland. In the 1880s more than 200 fishing boats
were docked in the harbor, but in the late 1890s,
a storm so badly damaged the harbor that all of the
boats moved to the harbor of Anstruther.
This
model was probably built by the Captain of the boat
for his children or grandchildren. The paint appears
original as do the spars. Tha sails and running rigging
surely have been replaced. This is a great looking
old model with a wonderful patina well over a century
old.
She
measures 42" long X 27" tall.
